Empowering Our Local Communities
Empowering Our Local Communities
Recently, a small team from our Indianapolis designIQ location partnered with the Greater Indy Habitat for Humanity. Their goal was to become directly involved in shaping the future of the Indianapolis area. Hard hats on, and hammers in hand, the volunteers were eager to learn new skills and make an impactful difference for a family in need.
DesignIQ Team Ready to Go!
Arriving on the site, early on a Friday morning, the team split into groups and set to work finishing the house. Once finished, this structure would soon be the home of Hoosier Debra Cavaletto and her son.
Habitat tasked one group with finishing the front porch on the structure; this included hanging the porch ceiling and caulking. A second group was focused on the house’s exterior siding and hanging windows throughout the house. A third group took care of framing the corners of the home. After finishing those tasks, they closed up space under the eaves. Finally, a group bravely – and safely – climbed onto the roof to nail trim along the eaves.
During the process, the team gained valuable insight on construction safety and how to use various tools. At the end of the day, the entire team came together to clean up the build site and stow the various equipment and tools. For our designIQ team of designers, coordinators, trainers and coaches, it was a tiring but rewarding experience. They looked back at their work and took pride in the fact that they helped their local community by building a home for a family in need.
Designers and supervisors working side by side is a great example on how our team here at designIQ is not only committed to the growth and future of our clients, but to the growth of our local communities as well. We hope that by making the designIQ day of service an annual tradition; we not only empower our staff to make a difference in our local communities but also empower the greater Indianapolis region to do the same.
